Whether you’re an elite athlete, take part in sport socially or someone who spends all day at the office or in the car, you will benefit from sports massage.
The techniques we use release the tension that builds up in the body’s soft tissues due to over-use, after injury or through inactivity; such as sitting in front of a PC all day. Athletes with injuries or problems that are inhibiting performance will find that the stimulatory effects of sports massage encourage the healing process.
Sports massage is specifically designed to assist you in your sport or fitness activities. Sports massage is concerned primarily with:
– Muscular and skeletal alignment
– How exercise affects the body’s systems
– How massage can promote or reduce these effects for your benefit as an athlete
Many of the aims of sports massage, such as injury prevention and the promotion of recovery from exercise, are therefore quite different from the aims of other forms of massage.
There are four types of Sports massage –
Pre-event massage – is tailored to your sporting activity, enhances your warm-up (does not take the place of an adequate warm up). Increases circulation, warms muscles and joints, improves your neuromuscular responsiveness, tones muscles and gives you a psychological boost. Pre-event massage tends to be performed less deeply, more brisk and for a shorter duration than other massage applications.
During-event massage – we are available to support you or your team during competition or events. Keeping you in a prepared state and reducing discomfort from cramp or fatigue. Please contact us if you would like us to support you or your team during an event.
Post-event massage – is tailored to your preceding activity enhancing your cool down (does not take the place of an adequate cool down). Helps you to recover from exertion and return to pre-exercising state. Helps to identify and treat minor injury problems; helps reduce pain and DOMS. Is a psychological boost and maintains and develops the working relationship with you as an athlete and your therapist.
Maintenance massage – is tailored to your activity and helps in the prevention and detection of injuries whilst aiding recovery from intensive training; improving flexibility, mobility, tone and responsiveness of your body during your activity.
Traditional sports massage can be complemented by other techniques such as dry needling to get the best results for you.
Our ultimate goal is to enhance your enjoyment of sport or fitness keeping you active; improve and accelerate your performance.
